Overview
Kotor and the nearby shoreside hamlet of Perast, share exhilarating scenery and a fascinating history that will captivate and delight you on this half-day-long excursion.
We will first visit Perast (Montenegro Tours) and its legendary man-made island, built by 15th century seafarers to house the picture-book church, Our Lady of The Rocks.
Hand-built, stone by stone, the island and church were built as a place of prayer and thanksgiving for safety at sea and today house some truly amazing religious artefacts and relics including a 15th century painting of the Mother of God, painted by a famous Kotor painter.
Perast was established by those same seafarers whose homes and business premises were built in the baroque style, reflecting the great wealth amassed from their sea-going ventures. The architecture is beautifully preserved and in our guided walk along the waterfront you’ll see some of the stone and marble mansions of the wealthy, noble families and hear what life was like in Perast centuries ago.
You will enjoy some free time to wander along the waterfront and perhaps enjoy the hospitality of the local cafes and restaurants.
Returning to Kotor (Kotor bay), we will amble together through the narrow streets of the Old Town and unwrap the incredible history of a city that in the golden years of the 13th and 14th centuries was known as a Royal City. There are wonderful surprises and enchanting tales to be had around every corner in the town that three generations of my family have called home.
We are excited to share the sights, scenery and history of our beautiful area. While your time with us may be relatively short, we can personally guarantee you will long remember your experiences in Kotor and Perast.
